Abstract :
This paper presents an effective technique for tracking and finding the direction of switched capacitor banks in distribution system that generate switching transient when certain number of power quality meters exist. This technique uses modal current and voltage signals that can be constructed by combining three-phase current and three-phase voltage. This method consists of two indices. First index is based on branch current and bus voltage changes immediately before and after the capacitor switching instant. Wavelet transform is used to detect the exact instant of switching transient. Second index is based on the energy of high frequency current transient that can be taken by wavelet detail coefficients. The efficiency of proposed method is validated using IEEE 13-bus distribution system, modeled in PSCAD and the results are then interfaced to MATLAB.
