Abstract :
It has been widely documented that the communications sector uses a significant and growing amount of the world´s total energy. Operators need to support network and capacity expansion, and the proliferation of smart devices may, on the surface, seem to increase the amount of energy required at each site, the direct operating expenses (OPEX) of telecommunications operations, and the capital expenses (CAPEX) associated with power equipment for base-load and backup service. These issues directly affect our industry´s ability to provide services reliably and cost-effectively. Service providers need new tools and schemes to manage their energy consumption and generation to help balance their CAPEX, OPEX, sustainability goals, and equally importantly, service reliability.
