Abstract
We consider a wireless network, where the users (nodes) themselves can be used to store data in a distributed fashion. We show how regenerating codes can be used to decrease the energy consumption of such networks. This is possible if internodal data transmission is less expensive, in terms of energy consumption per bit, than transmitting data between a node and a remote source. We show that, thence, the expected total energy consumption of distributed storage with regenerating codes can be lower than that of uncoded distributed storage.
