Abstract
The paper presents a study on the holonic planning and coordination issues that can be related with the activity of a centralized component, namely the staff holon. It describes an enhanced mechanism to be followed by the manager and staff holons, which allows a safe operation for cases of complex manufacturing goals. This is an extended form of the procedure that was previously introduced in a specific holonic architecture, named HAPBA, which is briefly described. The results obtained by simulation experiments support the proposed coordination protocol.
