Abstract :
Research the relation between average waste space per box and box sizes for the on-line next-fit bin-packing problem using the Symbolic Math Toolbox of Matlab, in which the item sizes distribute within the interval [a, b] uniformly. Design the algorithm to generate function of expected waste space vs. box size, and analyze properties of the function. It´s shown that the function oscillates attenuately, and attenuates faster with distribution interval enlarging.
