Abstract :
Building sustanability is an emerging area of research related to the use of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency throughout the buildings lifecycle. For this to happen, it is necessary to collect and analyse an increasing amounts of data from various sources including sensor data. As a result, energy production and use could be optimised based on a number of sustainability criteria. In the present study, the mOSAIC Cloud computing platform and API is used to design an application that would make it possible to store and analyse data about the building stock in Slovenia for various research and commercial purposes. Key parts of the design are: (1) an OWL/RDF knowledge base of high-level concepts describing sustainability aspects of a building including sensor data, CO2 consumption, energy use, and other sustainability parameters, and (2) the mOSAIC platform that takes care about the lower level details related to the application bottlenecks, such as elasticity needed when dealing with the sensor data. In order to connect these two distinct parts an URI referencing scheme is used. At runtime, when running analytic services, various decisions are possible to optimise the data and computationally intensive part of the application.
