Abstract
In this paper the application of Bluetooth for networked control systems is discussed. The complexity of communication with Bluetooth core module via HCI is given. The Bluetooth profiles simplifying the process, particularly SPP and HID profiles, are discussed and pros and cons of each one are covered. While SPP profile is widely used by engineers because of its simplicity and seamless transition of old wired devices to wireless, a HID profile offers comparative simplicity, native support by operating systems and is designed for low-latency requiring devices, which is a typical requirement for control systems. A number of experiments on DC motor position control were performed and it is proved that HID profile based control outperforms SPP based control and has comparable performance with SCO link based control.
