High intensity beam production and focusing with hollow ion beams

High eurronts can be transported in a system that makes use of the lower space charge densities in hoi low beams. The ability to put conductors on the axis of the beam makes possible a new type of strong, alternating focusing. The system has application in high current injectors for accelerators and in heavy ion drivers for inertial confinement fusion.
