  • Abstract
    We have investigated a FEL with a prebuncher, both theoretically and experimentally. In the theory we show how a prebuncher modifies the general dispersion relation describing the FEL, and how this leads to an increased gain as compared with the conventional FEL. In the experimental investigations, we confirm these results and demonstrate a greatly increased gains. We have measured the gain and dispersion relation of the FEL.
