Abstract :
Lightning brings out serious surface current on aircraft and induced peak current in the airborne avionics. This study analyzed the indirect effect of the direct lightning strike on an airborne ultra shortwave antenna. The lightning strike signal and the distribution of the initial lightning attachment zones are based on GJB 1389A-2005. The surface current density on the fuselage and the induced voltage and current in the antenna port are simulated by CST MICROSTRIPES™. Power induced in the port is calculated using the simulation results. Analyzing the result, the energy induced is sufficient to destruct receiver, especially while the engine beside the antenna is under attack of lightning strike.
