Abstract :
HLA (High Level Architecture) based distributed simulation has become the mainstream in practice these days. During the development of a HLA federation, the main work is to develop models in each federate. However, it is common that unreasonable models and unreasonable simulation results are obtained if system developers are not familiar with domain models. FLAMES model system is mature, exhaustive and easy to extend. So, if we can combine FLAMES with HLA to build simulation systems, i.e. developing federate models based on FLAMES model sets and using RTI (Run Time Infrastructure) to exchange data between these FLAMES applications, not only the burden of developing a federation will be reduced significantly, but also many errors will be avoided. However, due to the inherent incompatibility between FLAMES and HLA, FLAMES application can not directly execute in HLA federation. FLAMES provides a built-in approach to support HLA based simulation but it only supports the RTI1.3NG-V6 (or other compatible versions). The constraint hampers the application of this built-in approach. This paper proposes a Client/Server-based approach in which FLAMES applications can execute in HLA federations under different RTI versions.
