Abstract
Ultrasound imaging is a widely used and safe medical diagnostic technique, due to its noninvasive nature, low cost, real time imaging. However the usefulness of ultrasound imaging is degraded by the presence of signal depended noise known as speckle. Removing speckle noise from the original image is still a challenging research in image processing. Generally there is no common enhancement approach for noise reduction. Several approaches have been introduced and each has its own assumption, advantages and disadvantages. This paper compares different filtering techniques based on statistical quantity measures: Mean square error (MSE), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), signal to noise ratio (SNR) and Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) for the removal of speckle noise.
