Abstract :
The discrepancy between binary and the plasma collective stopping power theories is elaborated with examples of agreements with experiments if the stopping power of very intense electron beams is investigated, with an indirect agreement of fusion gain calculations for compressed pellets, and with an indication of plasma spectroscopy where the collective description arrived at an excellent agreement with measurements. The subsequent reduction of the stopping length in ICF pellets driven by intense ion beams, is shown for the cases of beam irradiation of compressed targets with electron densities beyond the solid state and for temperatures above keV.
