Abstract :
A high-bright, self-magnetically insulated, coaxial ion-beam diode, “Plasma Focus Diode” (PFD), was used to generate a tightly focused ion beam. A calculation model is developed for PFD and the calculated results are compared with previously reported experimental results. With the ion-beam power density of ~ 0.1 TW/cm2, the proton energy loss in aluminium target is studied both experimentally and theoretically. The enhanced energy deposition is observed and is found to be understandable by considering the temperature effect in target plasma.
