Abstract :
Operations research problems were normally based on the optimum allocation of resources in organizations. Some of the common approaches available to solve such problems are linear programming, integer programming, network, scheduling and the latest is MCDM (Multiple-criteria Decision Making). This paper highlights the use of MCDM in optimizing the balancing demand of livestock in livestock rearing. A goal programming approach is utilized in order to plan for seasonal as well as normal unseasonal demand. The model could also take into consideration the difference in priorities of the demand for different livestock during the festive and non-festive seasons. Hence, the positioning of the goal objectives could differ. The results suggest the practicality of the model in determining the optimal combinations of various types of livestock (in this case cattle and goats) to be supplied in order to satisfy the targeted goals. Hence, applying the MCDM approach would give beneficial impact to the organization as it could be used as a strategic planning tool in addressing future market potentials.
