Abstract
In this paper, the authors investigate the synchronization characteristics and the probability of frame error of the MPPM/CSK system on UWB-IR. The MPPM/CSK system uses two kinds of frame synchronization methods: (i) the preamble detection method, which puts a frame synchronization sequence ahead at each frame. (ii) the differential detection method, which makes a frame synchronization sequence by detecting the received signal differentially. As a result of performance analysis of the MPPM/CSK system by computer simulations taking IEEE 802.15.4a channel model into account, the probability of frame error by the differential detection method is superior to that of the preamble one in a multipath fading environment and a low additive white Gaussian noise.
