Abstract
A thermoelastic friction clutch for transferring mechanical torque is proposed and modeled. The friction force between the driving and driven parts of the system is produced by mechanical stress of thermoelastic origin. Operation of the device is characterized by mutual interaction of magnetic field, temperature field and field of thermoelastic displacements. The corresponding mathematical model is solved numerically in the monolithic formulation, with one stiffness matrix. The computations are carried out by own code Agros and library Hermes based on a fully adaptive higher-order finite element method. Some results are verified by other professional code COMSOL Multiphysics. The methodology is illustrated by a typical example.
