Abstract
This article presents the design optimization of an 8-pole permanent magnet rotor of a reaction sphere actuator. The optimization of design parameters is carried out to minimize the rotor magnetic flux density distortion given constraints on the strength of the rotor flux and on the mass. Finally, experimental measurements on the manufactured rotor are reported showing a strong correspondence with specified flux density values.
