Abstract :
Large deceleration during work of elevator safety devices are not always negligible problem. Accordingly, the performance standard for elevator safety devices has been deliberated by JEA (Japan Elevator Association) for several years. Although the association established the method of performance-test for safety gears in 2006 corresponding to the new proposal for conformable safety level against deceleration which the human body receives, such an independent standard in Japan has not absolutely met with European standard. Then, the authors focused on deceleration characteristics of safety gears and also its international safety standard, and started basic study of a safety gear composed of MR fluid dampers. The safety gear proposed here enables the damping coefficient to change so as to have reliable and soft braking characteristics by magnetic field control.
