Abstract :
Changing winding arrangement is a simple method that does not require machine structure to be redesigned and substantial increase in efficiency or performance can be achieved. The goal of this paper is to present a comparative analysis of three types of winding arrangements for a three-phase 12/8 switched reluctance motor (SRM), where short-, fully- and fractionally-pitched winding arrangements under unipolar operation are considered. In this paper, the comparison of average torque for equal copper losses shows that the fully-pitched and the short-pitched windings are efficient and can enhance the torque density; the comparison of the total winding weights and current level with the same copper losses are discussed.
