Abstract :
In this paper, the main factors to influence the voltage regulation of a new permanent magnet (PM) brushless DC generator are investigated, and magnetic field analysis of the influence of magnet thickness and air-gap length to the voltage regulation is carried out based on finite element method (FEM). According to the conditions for low voltage regulation with resistive load, the methods of reducing the voltage regulation of a PM generator by designing the proper parameters of the machine are proposed. A low-voltage-regulation prototype PM generator is developed, and the experimental results are given to verify the validity of theoretical analysis and simulation results.
