Abstract :
This paper aims to evaluate the performance of WiMedia Multiband Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Ultra Wideband (MB OFDM UWB) scheme in a realistic office environment. Due to its wide bandwidth, MB OFDM UWB has the potential of replacing other wireless technologies within the Personal Area Networks (PANs), but for various reasons, this potential seems not have been realised. The packet error rates (PER) were obtained over different parameters such as signal to noise ratio (SNR), distance, data rate and Payload. The PER were evaluated in consideration of the acceptable PER performance of wireless system, which is 8%. The results show that only low data rates could be used effectively over distances above 3m whereas higher data rates could be achieved over very short distances. Factors affecting the MB OFDM UWB includes frequency selective fading, power constraint and different regional UWB regulations.
