Abstract :
Over the last forty years computer games have transformed the way people spend their leisure time. More recently there has been an increasing interest in developing games for more serious purposes such as learning or skill acquisition. In this paper we propose a game design that allows students to create a serious game based on two tasks: programming and storytelling. The game structure allows the students from the storytelling task to have minimum programming skills. For this reason, our design is especially suitable for interdisciplinary collaboration between computer science and disciplines that are not necessarily related with computing. Experiments on students´ emotions have been developed to demonstrate that the motivation increases when the students learn through the design of videogames instead of through traditional learning strategies.
