Abstract
The Plasma Physics Division of the Naval Research Laboratory is engaged in a broad program investigating the basic physics of intense electron and ion beams. This program involves activities in the following areas: ion beam generation and transport; the formation of ion rings; rotating relativistic electron beams; collective acceleration; electron cyclotron masers and free electron lasers. The program includes experimental, theoretical and computational studies. In the following paragraphs an attempt will be made to briefly summarize the status of these activities.
