  • Abstract
This paper presents the experimental and simulation studies on the dynamics of air bearing-suspension system at different dynamic states when the slider approaches the disk. Especially the surfing state is identified, and the effect of lube contact/friction force on the dynamics of air bearing slider, suspension vibrations, and even dimple-gimbal interaction forces are characterized and investigated. The coupling vibrations of air bearing-slider-suspension system and their effects on slider flying stability and head positioning are investigated. The guidelines for reducing dynamic motion of read/write head in both flying-height (FH) and off-track directions are proposed for future surfing head-disk interface design.
