Abstract :
A novel miniature omnidirectional planar antenna for wideband vertical polarization applications is presented in this paper. This paper discusses a miniaturization technique in designing the compact omnidirectional antenna. Two shorting pins technique is applied to a well-know planar antenna structure whose radiation characteristics are similar to equivalent monopole ones. The typical dimension (radius) of the presented antenna is 0.1 λ0 (λ0 being the free space operating wavelength) which makes it a miniature antenna that can be integrated inside some portable wireless devices which have strict restriction for the antenna´s size using wideband communication systems. The proposed antenna input impedance bandwidth is 20% (720MHz) with respect to the center frequency of f0 GHz. It exhibits good radiation pattern in H-plan with small gain variations (<;0.6dBi).
