Abstract :
We invented a new method which is suitable to monitor the small movements of the patient in a horizontal position on the bed or monitor the movements during short term medical examination. The method is based on the use of strain gauge sensors configured to measure the torsional deformation of construction of the bed. Sensors are implemented into the construction of the bed and detect twisting of the elements of the bed. The invented method provides information about the patient´s physiological movements, namely it is the heart beating and respiration. For this purpose, we use four torsion sensors based on strain gauge sensors configured to measure the torsion deformation placed on the two two-arm brackets. The method was tested in order to verify that it works and can be proposed as an application in clinical practice. To our best knowledge, the method has never been tested or used before, and the proposed method has a potential for further development and research in the field of the monitoring of patients on a bed.
