Abstract
In this study, we introduce a traction motor control unit developed to drive a series diesel hybrid electric truck. The electric drive of a heavy-duty vehicle requires a system configuration having a relatively higher voltage and larger current than in an light-duty vehicle. In addition, components having a high power density need to be developed in order to improve vehicle performance. For reducing the number of vehicle wiring and cooling lines, a multidirectional water-cooled heatsink has been designed, and control algorithms for improving component efficiency have been applied. The developed motor control unit (MCU) was studied and verified through simulations and experiments.
