Abstract
This paper deals the design and experiment of 100kW interior permanent magnet (IPM) machine for ship application. The presented machine is used in anti heeling pump system of ship which plays a role to stabilize against ship rolling. High efficiency, low vibration and compact size are very important to this application, so the IPM machine will be good solution to this end. In this study, the design of IPM machine for marine application is introduced. Performances and torque characteristics are computed by 2 dimensional (2D) finite element analysis (FEA). The design of magnetic circuit and computational results are validated by experimental results with a prototype machine.
