Abstract
This study attempts to examine whether good governance practices in zakat distribution are required in zakat distribution in order to ensure that the eight asnaf receive the zakat fund and be satisfied with it. This study is motivated by the negative incidences reported in the mass media regarding improper management and non full distribution of zakat to the asnaf. Then there is a need for greater emphasis on good governance to be implemented in the zakat management. This research has gathered primary data from the zakat recipients in Kota Tinggi, Johor using a detailed survey questionnaire and interview. Secondary data was also gathered based on reports from few zakat institutions in Malaysia. Research findings concluded that good governance practices in accordance with shariah governance are crucial in ensuring zakat fund be distributed efficiently and effectively to the asnaf. Hence, contributing to the improvement of the asnaf´s standard of living at a satisfaction level.
