Abstract :
This work presents the design of 8×8 Circularly Polarized planar array antenna for 2.4 GHz ISM band to produce a narrow pencil beam of 12°-15° beamwidth which is compact enough to be placed onboard for airborne defence application. This paper enumerate the design of single feed corner truncated circularly polarized microstrip patch antenna with Type A perturbation. The design considerations of the single microstrip patch was carried forward for the design and simulation of 8×8 planar array antenna of maximum beamwidth 15° and scan angle 45°. Comparison of the characteristics of single microstrip patch and planar array antenna was carried out with the simulation in IE3D. The simulation results of planar array antenna shows the gain of 19.7 dBi, VSWR=1.06 (<; 2), bandwidth >; 20 MHz, axial ratio of 1.1dB (<; 3 dB) at resonant frequency of 2412.565 MHz, meeting the requirement.
