Abstract :
As a formative measurement, self-assessment can continuously observe and evaluate language learners´ learning development. But its validation is of primary priority before self-assessment is applied. A questionnaire concerning the English learners´ self-assessment of their English proficiency in the paper is employed, and their TEM4 scores are used as criteria to test the criterion-related validity of their self assessment. The result of validation tells us that self assessment is a reliable and valid measure for language proficiency.
