Abstract :
This paper provides a comparison between two common types of linear switched reluctance motors (LSRMs): 1) transverse flux LSRM and 2) longitudinal flux LSRM. Two structures are compared by using finite element method (FEM). Same translator structure is considered for both motors. The required stator steel of the longitudinal flux LSRM is 58.6% of the required stator steel of the transverse flux LSRM that shows the economic advantage of longitudinal flux LSRM. The driving force of transverse flux LSRM is a little greater than the driving force of longitudinal flux LSRM. Additionally, longitudinal flux LSRM has integrated stator structure. Totally, the longitudinal flux LSRM is more attractive for further study.
