Abstract
Switched reluctance actuators have inherent advantages due to intrinsic simplicity and low cost, however also presents high thrust ripple due to double salient structure and nonlinear nature. In this paper, we address the direct instantaneous thrust control of a 3-phase 6/4 linear switched reluctance machine (LSRM), using the MATLAB simulation environment. The developed model relies in two lookup characteristic tables relating flux linkage - position - current (λ, x, I) and current - position - developed force (i, x, F), to estimate thrust. In the accomplished simulation study the results evidence the suitability of the Direct Instantaneous Thrust Control technique (DITC) to achieve reduced thrust ripple at low speed.
