Abstract :
This work presents a comparison from the combustion quality point of view between two different spark plugs: a classical one and a new type of spark plug having an innovative geometry and which can provide two simultaneous sparks. The two devices have been tested on a Deltalab EX1000 multi-disciplinary test bench equipped with a Honda GX31 mono-cylindrical engine. In order to compare the ignition systems based on the two spark plugs, the exhaust gases resulting from the combustion (burning) process have been analyzed using a ROTRONICS CMR101 air/fuel ratio acquisition system associated with a wide band Lambda sensor. To supply the electrical discharges produced by the two spark plugs an electronic ignition coil driven by microcontroller based source has been used. In this study was also studied the influence of the control train pulses types (number and width of the pulses for each combustion cycle) over the combustion process.
