  • Abstract
The Pohang Light Source (PLS) is the first 3rd generation synchrotron light source and the first large scale accelerator project in Korea. The PLS had been operated for fifteen years from 1995 in Pohang, Korea. The Pohang Light Source II (PLS-II) is a new 3rd generation synchrotron light source in Korea, which was renovated from the old PLS. The PLS-II was completed its construction in 2011 and opened to users on March 2012. Since the success of the PLS, several other mega-science accelerator projects had been initiated in Korea. Currently active accelerator based mega-science projects in Korea are Proton Engineering Frontier Project, Rare Isotope Science Project, and PAL X-ray Free Electron Laser, and Korea Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator. These projects are briefly introduced and the role of PLS-II construction team, who has in-depth experience for such large projects, is discussed. Pulse power experiences are specially emphasized.
