Abstract
A proactive approach to the management of organisational culture is essential to embedding asset management thinking and practices. This paper considers what is known about how leadership style affects organisational culture and how this knowledge can be used to enhance the development of asset management thinking and behaviours. It uses evidence from research into organisational culture and leadership and presents a culture management model that has been used widely to underpin improvements in the alignment of organisational culture with corporate objectives. It concludes with a review of the principles of creating a culture conducive to achieving the types of decision making, functional integration, information sharing and long term thinking that are synonymous with good asset management and the role that business leaders play in this process.
