Abstract :
The purpose of this project is to design and build an EDR (event data recorder) device that stores data about the car. To obtain such information, the device must be able to communicate with the car through the CAN protocol (Controller Area Network). The device should listen to network messages and decrypt their content. Measurements like engine temperature, engine rpm, speed reached, messages from the brake, accelerator or even from transmission are obtained. Messages will be stored on the EDR and then transmitted to the PC. This information is used to obtain driving habits of the driver. This project was developed at the “Centro de Competencias en Eléctrica y Electrónica Automotriz CCEEA” founded at the Universidad de las Américas Puebla with the support of Volkswagen de México S.A. de C.V.
