Abstract :
In order to overcome the drawback which the traditional edge detection methods have high sensitivities to noise, a new edge detection approach based on vector morphological operators in color image processing is presented in this paper. Vector ordering is the key issue for the extension of grayscale mathematical morphology to color image processing. We proposed a new vector ordering in RGB color space. And then by analyzing the characteristics of the noise contaminating image, vector morphological operators are proposed and these operators are applied in color edge detection. Our proposed operators have better performance for noise suppressing and edge detection. Experimental results show that the presented method can suppress noise effectively and better preserve edge image details in contrast with the previous methods.
