Abstract :
This paper presents the performance of a robust power system stabilizer (RPSS) to stabilize a linearized uncertain power system. The robust PSS is designed using Glover McFarlanes H loop shaping design procedure. Guidance for setting the feedback configuration for loop shaping, weighing functions selection and synthesis are also presented. The efficiency of the designed controller is simulated using Matlab/Simulink. A baseline controller is designed using conventional pole placement technique for comparing the robustness of H∞ controller. The results of RPSS are compared with that of the conventional pole placement power system stabilizer (PPSS) for a three phase fault. Justification of robustness is also presented by considering three different operating points corresponding to a considerable uncertainty in the system. Single Machine Infinite Bus System (SMIB) of model 1.1 is used The proposed method presented in this paper shows the effectiveness of the RPSS in damping the power system oscillations.
