Abstract :
Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) are battery operated, self-configuring infrastructureless network of mobile devices connected by wireless. The mobility of the nodes in MANETs leads to rapid and unpredictable topology changes. Power conservation achieved by topology control results in increased spatial reuse of communication channels thereby increasing the system throughput. In this paper, we suggest some improvement to existing LFTC protocol. Our proposed protocol, called LFTC-RP, improves LFTC in power conservation. Furthermore the proposed protocol is location free, uses reluctance values and also avoids potential collisions that occur due to hidden terminals. This study is important in extending battery lifetime and consequently the lifetime of nodes and the network.
