Abstract :
A new wavelet oriented scalar quantisation method called wavelet maxima mapping quantisation (WMMQ) for wavelet transformed image lowpass subband has been proposed. The WMMQ is an adaptive quantisation algorithm that exploits image spatial information to refine the quantisation stepsize for a wavelet transformed image lowpass subband. Empirical analysis and statistical measurements have shown substantial improvement can be obtained in image background luminosity (DC magnitude), image contrast and image visibility.
