Abstract
The IEEE History Center has just published a biography of Frank Julian Sprague, one of the original founders of the American Institute of Engineers. Sprague was one of the most important electrical engineers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Sprague was an inventor who believed in preparing engineering plans and calculating his designs before building the prototypes that he tested, improved upon, and ended up installing.
