Abstract
In this paper, we propose an SLVA-aided turbo decoding scheme for free-space optical (FSO) communication systems. FSO communication is a promising solution for high-rate point-to-point communication, but its performance is severely corrupted by the effects of strong atmospheric turbulence. Simulation results show that our proposed decoding scheme obtains noticeable gains over the conventional turbo decoder. Complexity analysis demonstrates that the proposed decoder has lower computational complexity than that of a conventional turbo decoder with more iterations.
