Abstract :
This paper discusses about single-layer and multi-layer dielectric rod antenna design. These dielectric rod antennas share several desirable features including ultra-wide bandwidth (UWB), symmetric patterns, dual-polarization, pattern shaping, and phase center control. This paper presents design examples of circular dielectric rod antennas made of one to four dielectric layers. It will be shown that the single dielectric rod antenna can operate over 2:1 bandwidth, and each additional dielectric layer can increase operational bandwidth by a factor of two.
