Abstract
The rapid growth of wireless data and complexity of 4G systems drive new design challenges for RF chipset and handheld/mobile device manufacturers along with carriers. The wide and many frequency bands to be supported in multimode phone pose severe RF design challenges both from the chipset and antenna point of view. Generally, RF chipset and antenna designs are performed independently and there is little exchange between RFIC and antenna designers. This paper will provide a perspective in order to illustrate how the wireless industry can innovate and improve RF system performances leveraging a closer collaboration between RFIC and antenna communities.
