Abstract :
A mode combination method has been used by Chu and after by Harrington to calculate the maximum radiation directivity obtainable by spherical modes. However, the higher spherical modes are not easy to construct. In the other hand, antennas with azimuthally angular variation of “cylindrical” mode, i.e. azimuthal modes, are more familiar and more commonly used in practical applications than the spherical ones. The azimuthal mode combination method is developed here and the maximum directivity for these modes is derived.
