Abstract
To enhance the performance of the High Frequency Surface Wave Radar, it is necessary to improve the surface wave to the sky wave ratio. A solution to this issue may be to install a metamaterial in the vicinity of transmitting antennas. In this paper, we will present also results about the propagation across the transition and the impact of the edge of the metamaterial that might diffract the surface waves to the sky. We will show that the metamaterial enhances the surface wave strength and that the transition impacts slightly on the transmitted waves.
