Abstract :
A Dielectric Resonator Antenna (DRA) for a System in Package (SiP) millimeter wave transmitter is proposed. A commercially available Quad-Flat No-leads (QFN) package is chosen and the DRA is designed taking into account the package environment. The final design shows a 14% impedance bandwidth (56.5 GHz - 65 GHz @VSWR=2) with a maximum realized gain of 8 dBi. The package is considered as well as the different interconnections between the Si-chip and access pads, thus offering a SMD (Surface Mounted Device) antenna solution fulfilling the unlicensed 60 GHz band requirements for short range communications.
