Abstract :
A study is being conducted to identify a number of long term candidates for meeting future NAS ATM data comm needs - 50 year time horizon - Candidates have been identified; Initial evaluations of the candidates are underway to: - Quantify attributes and characteristics - Map to ATM uses / flight phases - Identify infrastructure / architecture needs - Identify vulnerabilities and mitigation strategies - Plan to evaluate costs (relative comparisons); Before any candidate would seriously be considered for NAS operations, further analysis, stakeholder vetting, cost benefits, etc. is needed.
